WHAT EARLY READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT SING YOUR SONG
These are not just reviews. They are reflections of what the book touched, stirred, or shifted in others.
“Wow! What an amazing book! Pure and raw, sometimes deeply painful (yes, I cried a few times). Hazel manages to tell a profound and painfully honest story, while at the same time offering hope and strength. It is so important to make the taboo that still exists around mental health issues and their consequences discussable! This book contributes to that in a beautiful way. Highly recommended! This gem MUST be in my bookcase and deserves to be read by as many people as possible.”
—Karolien Noël-Dero
“From my own experience with mental problems, I find Hazel’s description of her experiences with anxiety and depression very relatable. Serene and without criticism, with an ever-so-understanding quality that puts things into perspective, and still calls them by name! Impressive!
There’s a need to break the taboo surrounding mental illness, and this book contributes to that. It brought me back to the youth books I read for the Literature Prize De Kleine Cervantes (Ghent City), about young people who struggle, those who are bullied, who have to take care of their caretakers, . . . Like them, Hazel describes her journey—the difficult path to reach her goals.
In terms of stories, this book immediately reminded me of Women Who Run with the Wolves: Contacting the Power of the Wild Woman by Clarissa Pinkola Estés—about the untamable, wild woman as an archetype in myths and tales.
In short: powerful writing!”

“This is a book consisting of two parts. The first part (autobiographical) is written very smoothly, one must admire the writer for writing about such profound subjects (broken home, coming of age,...) in such a captivating manner. In doing so, I feel the reader has no choice but to live vigorously through her story and admire the author for her insights and her strength.
Throughout the book I clearly saw a writer that's eager to share all her knowledge and all the goodness inside with her readers (through encouragement, bringing perspective, being strong by confidently showing her fragility). In other words, in Hazel I see kindness personified.
The second part of the book was even more interesting in my opinion. In it, we as readers get a whole set of possibilities that can help and inspire us in optimizing our lives.
My experience with books in this category is that they often lack clear and specific tips or suggestions for actions. Which is why I so appreciated the many very specific and actionable advice in this book.
Finally, for me the most valuable content in the book, is the very extensive list of superpowerful questions at the end of each chapter. These questions allow the reader to come to his own conclusions and even to completely map out and follow his own path in life.”
—Lieven Schepers
“The first part of Sing Your Song (the autobiography) is an honest and touching story.
While reading it, I felt a strong connection with Hazel. More than once I shed a tear.
But Hazel's fine sense of humour also made me smile a lot.
Regarding the second part of Sing Your Song (the Strategy), I was rather sceptical.
I always am, when concerning self-reflection.
The Sing Your Song Strategy however, makes perfect sense!
I could feel the effect while reading it. Even music touches me in a different way, now... It's crazy!
Thus, I am sure that everyone finds something in this book that can change their life in one way or another.
Thank you so much, Hazel, for sharing your healing insights with us.”
—Daniel Haepers
“Sing Your Song is a well-written book that sticks with you from start to finish. You just want to know how the story ends!! I find it wonderful how open, honest and unashamed the author presents herself to the world. Because of that she holds up a mirror, allowing you to take a closer look at your own life. I’ve already read a lot of self-help books, but I could still learn from this one. What inspired me most is the necessity of combining the healing of the subconscious on the one hand (because talking alone doesn’t change much most of the time) and finding and following your passions in life on the other hand. Integrating these two into your life will certainly help turn it around for the better!”
—A. Wouters
“I found Hazel's story raw, honest, and deeply relatable. She takes us on a journey past a less-than-rosy childhood and the resulting trauma to the moment when she has healed enough to sing her song. She does so with great hope, authenticity, and a hint of wonderful humor that kept me riveted.
It's rare to find the blend of passion and compassion that Hazel shows in this book. It made the read feel like a journey with a very dear friend you cheer for, laugh with, and occasionally, cry with too. It also meant her perspectives and the healing techniques she offered found me with an open heart and mind.
Hers is a journey I will remember.”

“This book gives us insight into dealing with the cracks (or large tears) in our souls. Healing old hurt is possible! It takes time, love, understanding, . . . I’m glad Hazel shares her story and clearly explains what worked for her. It was very recognizable. Hopefully, it will inspire a large audience. Fully growing up, living our mission to the fullest and enjoying it, is perhaps the greatest gift we can give ourselves and others. Thank you, Hazel, for this beautiful work!”
